A wedding dress with 50-60 years of history — before and after
Category: Wedding dresses
Our own original pictures from the job, treated at our own dry cleaners in Roskilde.
Old wedding dress before treatment — around 50-60 years oldDrag the handle to compare before and after. The arrow keys can also be used.
A customer came in with her mother's wedding dress, which is around 50–60 years old. The dress had never been professionally cared for before, and many years of storage had left clear marks on the fabric.
Now there is a very special occasion to bring it out again: the granddaughter would like to get married in the same dress.
We therefore approached the job carefully. When a textile is that many years old, you cannot promise that all discolouration and signs of age can be removed without also putting the material at risk. The aim was therefore not to make the dress ‘as new’, but to improve it as much as possible with respect for the fabric's age and history.
The result was not perfect, and there are still traces of the dress's many years. But the difference is clear, and above all we hope the customer is happy with the result – and we look forward to the dress being worn at another wedding in the family.
Old and delicate textiles are always assessed individually before we start.
