Christening gowns

The christening gown should be cleaned before it is put away

After the christening the gown may look perfectly clean, even though invisible residues can remain in the fabric. We assess the gown and choose a treatment suited to the material, age and details.

What we look at before we start

What you cannot see

A christening gown can look clean straight after the christening, even though residues from food, milk, skin oils or dribble may remain in the fabric. They are not visible at first. Over time, organic residues can oxidise and appear as yellowish marks, typically where the gown has been in contact with the child.

Assessment before treatment

Christening gowns are often delicate, old or family heirlooms.

How it works

From drop-off to collection

  1. 1. Drop-off and inspection. We go through the gown with you and talk about what it has been exposed to.
  2. 2. Assessment of the material. We choose dry cleaning, washing or professional wet cleaning based on the fabric, age, construction and care label.
  3. 3. Treatment. Delicate lace, embroidery, ribbons and buttons are covered or treated by hand where necessary.
  4. 4. Inspection and finish. The gown is pressed and inspected before it is handed back to you.
